Day 2 asparagus dinner
What Katie Ate ...the first time I stumbled upon her blog I felt like I'd found my soulmate food photographer, we joke in our house when we take food shots..." It's a what Katie ate shot"! A little more texture a little more munched as we forgot to record the moment earlier ( yes we do often photograph our dinners.. we just do! ) so this one is WKA asparagus quinoa lentil salad,(from her first cookbook) a little less picture worthy but completely delicious....with the Tannery' s Cumberland sausages(a whole other post!)... Another happy asparagus feast.

Dinner tonight asparagus season
It's an intense, make the most of it time of the year. Our asparagus patch is planted but not ready for harvesting. The only option in our town is asparagus bunches at the supermarket with their purple rubber bands ( which I quite like) or if we are driving south, which due to the recent medical drama we have been. A beautiful kg bag of the tastiest asparagus from waipara winery restaurant. I m so dedicated to this task in season I stopped on the way to the hospital! ( I didn't know to be fair it was such a medical emergency unfolding! )On our way home 11 days later, of course I was going to call in! And yes this time the patient was resting in the car and I had to run through the torrential down pour to get my asparagus prize! So worth it for our nights of asparagus dinner inspired feasting.

last night in Ibiza
The night before we prepped the beautiful Ottolenghi Lamb Shawarma, the afternoon dawned as it does in Ibiza time, Some coffee, some food prep, a swim at Ladies Beach (a rugged get in and out ...whats that about?) fun times in the kitchen and around the bbq on the terrace. Shifting setting the table, The Ibiza residents amble in (yep they live here), Kiwis, Spanish, Irish, English. A joyful relaxed dinner outside, I'm loving these balmy evening temperatures.Impromptu skittles in the kitchen with stacked empty wine bottles before we depart! to dance the night away, Not quite the 1000s dancing together for us, but we sure did dance and wander until the sun rose and I could say " what an all nighter! (til 9am!!!) and in Ibiza" just a pity we had a plane to catch later today!!! a quick pack and a few hours sleep! where is the wisdom of our years now!!!

so this is the perfect day
Its a big call...to say this was /is a perfect day...but for some reason I finished this day spent this day and it was the perfect day....
so now the challenge is to express this day
so I've previewed the post and the photos are all muddled but, honestly I dont have the time and the images say it all...we explored the beautiful sleepy fortified town ,while Ibiza slept, drove with j through the interior of Ibiza stopped for a carajillo in a village, sat on the rocks and drank mojitos and watched the sun set inbetween jumping into the clear water with our face masks on, when we had to leave , we all piled into the smallest car ever and drove home! ate beautiful japanese tapas at J friends new bar, our quiet morning town now full to the brim with people, we moved to a quiet bar for a wine and went home and prepped the lamb for the birthday feast.....it was a perfect day....that perfect holiday feeling filled with magical places and company.
